Letter Home from Mindanao

Scoil Mhuire, Corofin, Co. Clare

Greetings from Mindanao Philippines

Hi mum,

All is well with gran and I. The flight to Mindanao was alright. Twenty-two hours stuck on four planes isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but gran is so used to travelling by now, bad food and being surrounded by crying babies doesn’t bother her the slightest. You wouldn’t believe how hot it is here. The sun has scorched my skin and left me looking like a ripe tomato! Gran is delighted to be home. She’s been introducing me to all her friends and family that I’ve never met before. Yesterday, we took a break from mingling and went to Hinatuan River. Or the Enchanted River, as gran and her friends, called it. Well, it took my breath away. The crystal clear sapphire water was speckled with all different varieties of fish. There were other people there too. Swimming to their heart’s content with all the marine life in the water. The days of our departure are slowly creeping up on us. Only five more days left. This place is everything gran has told me, and more. I absolutely love it here!

I can’t wait to tell all of you more when I come home.

Bye for now.
