A Letter Home
It’s week 3 of being in this crazy place called New York. This place never seems to fail anyone. Every day something new pops up. I’ve met so many new people from being in college over here but I still really miss you. Walking to college every day is amazing. Seeing all the autumn coloured trees is so calming, it really puts you in a good mood for the productive day ahead. But I have such a funny story to tell you that I lay off from telling you. The first week of being at college was pretty hard as I missed my family and friends, especially you. So myself and Anna my good friend in college that I made on the first day, set off to Times Square to get our minds off of school work. Times Square is a big tourist destination so it is usually very busy and easy to get lost. We took a taxi from our college as it was a good distance away. We got there at about 6 pm so it was getting dark as it was going into the winter months.
I got out of the taxi with Anna following behind and the bright colours of the adorned billboards struck me raging from bright coloured pink to the darkest blue of our deep dark ocean. There were so many shops around the place so myself and Anna had a wonder and did some shopping. At one stage when I was in American Eagle I felt like someone one was watching me but I knew that Anna was upstairs looking at t-shirts so I knew it wasn’t her. I looked around but there was no one. All of a sudden I heard a scream coming from upstairs and I could see a whole load of tall men dressed in black running up the escalator some holding bags in their hands which in what I’m guessing was money or clothes. But then as I said that a man came down the steps next to the escalator walking with a girl in front of him and him holding a big butchers knife up to her throat. I realized that the girl being threatened by the man in black was indeed Anna I screamed ‘Anna’ at the top of my lungs but I couldn’t do anything to save her I just watched the man bribe her to give him her money but she disobeyed and next thing you know she was on the ground with blood everywhere. The man saw me and started running at me I was screaming and bawling my eyes out, as I thought I was going to die. I just started sprinting out the door dropping my bag as I left still running until I made it back to the college.
I’m here now 2 weeks later after the extreme event and after Anna’s funeral that was hosted 2 days after she was murdered. I went to it and felt like it was all my fault I should have been upstairs and she wouldn’t be dead right now but all my friends say that it wasn’t my fault and I couldn’t have stopped it from happening. They made me feel a lot better so I decided to write to you and tell you as you deserve to know as you are my best friend since preschool.
I hope I hear from you soon and tell Molly and Sarah I say ‘Hi’ as well!
From your Best Friend,
