'Spirit of Place' - A day to write about!
If you were ever looking for an unusual and inspiring way to spend a Sunday, then read on! Experience the beauty and history of Lismore during a guided stroll for writers/aspiring writers and then join us for a workshop to reflect and write on your impressions and creative response.
Our 45 minute stroll will bring you through time, from the serene Lady Louisa's Walk, to the Cathedral dating back to 1630, then on to the famine graveyard and workhouse. We will then break for lunch and return to the Lismore Heritage Centre for an afternoon of writing facilitated by writer and mentor Grace Wells. Whether you like to write poetry or prose, this workshop will give you a great insight into how to approach your writing and how to take inspiration from your surroundings or local history.
Course facilitator Grace Wells has being mentoring writers for a number of years and is currently undertaking a writer's mentoring programme for Waterford County Council and Artlinks. Grace is the recipient of many awards such as the Eilis Dillon Best Newcomer Bisto Award for her first book, the children's novel, 'Gyrfalcon', which was also an International White Ravens' Choice. Her poetry and short stories have been published widely and she reviews Irish poetry for the University of Chicago's online literary journal, 'Contrary'. Grace is a Kavanagh Award winner, and has recently won the 2011 Rupert and Eithne Strong Best First Collection Award.
'Spirit of Place' takes place in Lismore, Co. Waterford on Sunday 12th June as part of the Immrama Festival and this workshop is funded by Waterford County Council's Arts Office & Artlinks in support of local writers.
